Personal News Reader

Today I was talking to Hrishi and he told he is not able to give much time on reading news paper now days because he has to catch bus daily morning, so I told it's good, you can read in bus. Then he told me that it's pain reading in bus and it give strains to eyes.
So here comes the idea:
Personal News/Feed reader (for mobile):
It's will take feeds from internet and read out (speak) the headlines one by one, whenever you want to have more info on that news, it will read out the actual content. This can be done using simple text to speech engine.

Electricity at home from water at overhead tank

It's just a thought, but can be converted to a useful product.
I think a small amount of electricity can be generated from the water at overhead tank, using turbine.
Attach a small turbine in the pipe going from tank to house, such that whenever someone opens any tap in the house, the water will go thru the turbine and will rotate it, that rotation will generate some electricity which can be used to charge a battery, which can later be used at need. I think this product can be very useful in villages where elex comes and goes frequently.
The questions here are:
* how much electricity will this small turbine generate?
* will this slow down the force of water in the tap? If yes, will that be a problem?

collaborative movie library

Last wednesday at Rakhi I went to my cousin sister for the Raksha-Bandhan. There I saw that Jijaji had a huge collectiion of movies (cds/dvds). So an idea (re)emerged on my mind. Why can't we have a collaborative movie library. I'll work same as netflix/70mm, but we won't have any storage. All the movies will with users, and we will give them platform to share their collection with other's and make use of other's collection.
I have many dvd's of many movies, but they are allmost of no use to me as I have seen them. I want to see other movies, which today I need to buy or download. Here in this library I'll share my collection and whenever somebody will borrow my dvd, I'll get some points. Then I can borrow any movie from those points.
The collaborative library will provide 2 things.
  1. The platform to share the collection with library and search browse the full library. Choice of vast viriety of movies.
  2. The logistics (that's the part I don't have idea with): the pickup and drop at door. So that you wont have to go anywhere. For this part I'll need to see how 70mm do it. They have local guys going to doorstep of each customer to give/take movies.
Revenue model: subscription basis. 70mm has plan like Rs 50 permonth. Our's should be like 10-15 Rs per month. If the model is in Bangalore, and library has around 10K active users, the revenue is 1lac. per month, the main expenditure will be pickup boys and server bandwidth.
The idea can be generalized to books too. I find no difficulty in that once the basic platform is in place.

what, where and for how much?

I want to go for some shopping. May be mobile, may be grocesry or may be anything.
2 things I want to know here:
where will I get the thing I want in the best price.
and is there some discount/offer going on in the things I am interested.

I want to buy a new mobile samsung star, but no way I can find out where will I get it in the best price, and where it's available. I need a way to know where in my locality I can get the mobile and at what price. Mobile store doesn't have it, univercell has but it's 10K, sangeetha is 9.5K but out of stock.
So can there be a platform where consumers can check where they can find the thing they want and producers can show what they have in their store and at what price, so I can decide where to go.
This could be little bit like sulekha, or any other social classified, but with the focus on the products, with more granularity, like
Sugar
  • Rs 30 at bigbazaar
  • Rs 35 at more
  • etc...

first personality Dhirubhai Ambani

So, I decided to start with dhirubhai ambani when my wife suggested this (though she works in a Tata's company). She said u allready know few things about Ambani as u have seen Guru movie. I read wiki page of the prince of polyester. Now I know many things about this great man.
At the end I came to know about one more thing. there is allready a list of biographis of Indian enterprenuers which I wanted to make. But they have only 37 personalities, so I can start on others. But I am planning to first read few of them. I'll read Dhirubhai's biography first.

ideas

Every person's mind is always running with more than speed of life. A young mind generates many ideas every day. Mine too.
I am planning to write down few of them. So look for most foolish ideas to most intellectual ideas in a single place. You'll learn from them or you'll laugh at them, I don't know. But one thing I am sure of is that, you'll enjoy them.
I always wanted to do something by my own, but never got courage to get out of my job and start by my own. One of the reason for it is, I am still in search of that idea, which'll give me confidence that 'Yes, I can do it'.
May be this blog could help me in that search. Let's see.
